5 Pro Tips for Dramatic Makeup

Marilyn Manson came to Texas for his 2016 North American Summer tour and hit Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas. With him he brought his loyal cult fan base, lengthy entrance lines and peculiar antics while on and offstage. I didn't witness the concert but I did get to do makeup for it which was an awesome change of pace from the basic camera-ready makeup I've been doing lately.
In typical Marilyn Manson fashion, the theme of the makeup was "gorelesque", which is a cross between burlesque, pinup, steampunk and goth. Check out the dramatic makeup tips and the photo gallery below to see the steps I took to create the full look. Curious about what products I used for the look? Pro Dramatic Eye Makeup Tips:
Primer! Primer! Primer! -- when you're going dramatic, there's nothing worse than having half of your makeup come off before the night is even over. A good primer will brighten your color pigments, keep your skin happy and your makeup in place all night long.
Use a White Eye Base -- some primers have a light tint to them but when I'm after a dramatic eye shadow look, I always use a white cream shadow or jumbo liner underneath. Using white beneath your eye shadow will make those shades pop and your colors will appear closer to the vibrancy of the swatch.
The Eyes Come First -- eye shadow has a magical way of getting all over everything, so apply shadow as heavy as you want first and then use a makeup remover wipe to remove excess shadow before applying concealer or foundation.
To Set A Liquid, Apply A Powder -- this rule applies to everything you put on the face, use a powder or shadow to pat over a dry liquid liner, lipstick, concealer or foundation to mattify, set, remove oils and keep your makeup on longer.
Use A Setting Spray -- dramatic makeup needs to be reinforced in every way possible because it doesn't look as awesome when half of it is coming off your face before your evening's even started. Use a light finishing or setting spray to keep your look in place.
